There really isn't anything like this available in the Surrey or Sussex area! It's a brilliant opportunity to combine stammering therapy with being in the great outdoors.
Here are some of the comments from the group run in 2022:
"Meeting others 'like me' really helped with confidence"
"It is a good group, they helped me do what I think I could not do"
"I liked everybody, I found the incline log really fun ,I found the Chinese finger trap tricky but it helped me with my stammering"
"This was such a fantastic opportunity, so worth the money and effort to get there across the Surrey countryside! Highly recommend it,
Lauren and Chris were brilliantly positive and supportive to children and parents alike! Thank you"
Aims of the group include:
- Meeting other children and young people who stammer
- Doing something that challenges you
- Trying new things and having fun
- Being in an environment that accepts the way you speak, whether you stammer or not
- Learning about the importance of communication skills
- Building upon your own communication skills
- Challenging yourself with talking tasks
- Finding out more about stammering
Core messages being discussed include:
- It's okay to stammer
- Never underestimate what a person is capable of
- Stammering is a way of talking
- Stammering is a difference NOT a defect
- What you say is more important than how you say it
